The Associated Press tweeted: "Trump signs executive actions to advance the construction of the Keystone XL and Dakota Access oil pipelines." Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) National Advisory Board member Rep. Raul Grijalva, (AZ-7), quickly responded:
Even for a president who mistakes his own whims for the rule of law and corporate profits for the public interest, these orders are irresponsible. These pipelines are being approved because President Trump wants to make polluter corporations happy, not because they’re good for the country.
If either of these pipelines is finalized, the damage to water quality, public health, and eventually our climate will be on his hands. Approving the Dakota Access project in particular violates Native American sovereignty, treaty rights and federal trust responsibility which the Obama administration rightly recognized when it decided the pipeline needed further review.
PDA Agrees with Rep. Grijalva, Sen. Bernie Sanders, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, and other leaders in Congress who say no to these pipelines!

PDA ally Our Revolution explained the impending consequences clearly today:
It is clear Donald Trump is willing to prioritize the fossil fuel industry over the health and well-being of our planet. If these pipelines are built, it will have devastating effects on the climate, our land and our water. Additionally, it goes against the will of millions of people who stood up to oppose these pipelines in the first place.
PDA ally, 350.org co-founder Bill McKibben provided important context explaining:
More people sent comments against Dakota Access and Keystone XL to the government than any project in history. The world's climate scientists and its Nobel laureates explained over and over why it was unwise and immoral. In one of his first actions as president, Donald Trump ignores all that in his eagerness to serve the oil industry. It's a dark day for reason, but we will continue the fight.
This is not a done deal. The last time around, TransCanada was so confident they literally mowed the strip where they planned to build the pipeline, before people power stopped them. People will mobilize again.
Can we count on your help to launch our Panels Not Pipelines campaign? We need you to pitch in $500, $50, or $5 whatever you can afford right now to help us stop these pipelines and keep fossil fuels safely in the ground!
