Join Us on Nov. 8th for PDSFV Meeting on Election Reform
Guest speaker Trent Lange (on the right) at the signing celebration for SB 822. He is with (from left to right) State Senator Kevin de Leon, the bill's author Assemblymember Scott Weiner and Assemblymember Miguel Santiago.
Our guest speaker will be Trent Lange, who is the executive director of both the California Clean Money Campaign (501c3) and the California Clean Money Action Fund (501c4). The campaign's goal is to achieve an open and accountable government by building statewide support for public funding of election campaigns. Trent will discuss the legislation that the organization has been instrumental in passing in the last few years, including the California DISCLOSE Act (AB 249) and the Social Media DISCLOSE Act (AB 2188). The group is now working on the Petition DISCLOSE Act (SB 651) and the campaign to strengthen Los Angeles' matching funds public financing system. He will also talk about the techniques that are helpful for a grassroots campaign which is working on making positive change, including showing support for legislation by getting petitions signed and generating phone calls to legislators. You can learn more on the campaign's websites, which are HERE and HERE.
We will also have a recap of the Nov. 6th election (with hopefully lots of good news). We will focus on how progressive candidates and ballot measures did locally as well as throughout the state and the nation.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at Doris and Lloyd Dent's home in Northridge. Bring a potluck item to share.
