Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) has written to you about this before, and we thank you for your interest and strong support. Today, we have some new developments to report. Some people have asked why we back Keith so forcefully. Here is his vision for the party, in his own words, (from our friend Rep. Keith Ellison):

We must energize Democratic activists across the country and give them the tools to build the Party from the bottom up. Beyond a 50-state strategy, we need a 3,143-county strategy. DNC members are on the front lines in these states and counties, and we must harness your experience and give you a meaningful voice as we set the direction for the Party. In a DNC Chair, you need a partner and an advocate who will ensure you have the resources you need to win.

Let's make Today January 2nd, and tomorrow, January 3 go down in history. The Supreme Court is our last defense to block President-elect Donald Trump's administration from doing their worst.

The most important action President Barack Obama can take to protect Americans from fascism is to confirm a Justice to the open seat before leaving office. Call on President Obama via the White House switchboard: (202) 456-1111 and tell him to advance every possible judicial appointment by tomorrow!

There are at least three ways President Obama can fill the Supreme Court vacancy on January 3, 2017:

1. A recess appointment, which will last for a senate session or two (at the same time he can fill the 59 federal judgeships to end the “judicial emergency”).
2. A vote using the “nuclear option” before new senators are sworn in on January 3rd.
3. Conclude that the Senate has waived its constitutional right to “advice and consent” by failing to act.

We as Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) have an incredible opportunity to create real change in the Democratic Party in 2017. Our National Advisory Board member Rep. Keith Ellison is running to become Chairperson of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), and his chances look good. Bernie Sanders and other progressives support him, as do many mainstream Dems.

Keith has pledged to step down from Congress to become a full-time DNC Chair, and to launch a county-by-county grassroots effort to revitalize the Democratic Party. We agree with Keith. Real change happens from the grassroots up, at the local and state levels. We are proud we were the first national organization to endorse Rep. Keith Ellison for DNC Chair, and we look forward to working with him should he win election to that position.
