Don't Let The Trump Regime And Congress Sabotage Our Healthcare

PDA supports the only viable alternative to the ACA, such as proposed by Rep. John Conyers (MI-13) in his Expanded Improved Medicare for All Act (H.R. 676). This month, we are delivering letters to our members of Congress asking them to cosponsor H.R. 676.

Tuesday, I was on Capitol Hill with healthcare advocates meeting with key allies including Rep. Jamie Raskin (MD-8), and staffers for Mr. Conyers, Rep. Elijah Cummings (MD-7), Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-7), and Sen. Chris Van Hollen (MD). We heard a lot of encouraging things. H.R. 676 already has 59 cosponsors. Meanwhile, the Republicans are confused.

In their inept effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans are threatening to make the system more costly, less efficient, and—worst of all—less accessible to people in need of healthcare.

The Hill reports "Ben Wakana, a former spokesman for the Department of Health and Human Services under President Obama, called [Trump's executive order and other actions] 'terrible' on Twitter, saying it would drive up costs for consumers. He pointed to the change allowing somewhat less generous plans, saying the move would lead to higher out-of-pocket costs for people."

Higher cost, less access. That is the exact wrong direction we should take. Expanded Improved Medicare for All is the only viable ACA replacement that would save lives and money.
