Support Biden + Bernie Delegates Uniting for Peace

Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders

Dear Sisters, Brothers and Siblings:

We, the undersigned Wisconsin delegates for Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders, extend a warm greeting to all delegates and participants of the 2020 Democratic National Convention. Although the majority of the convention will be held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we plan to actively pursue, both virtually and at in-person events in Milwaukee, a new progressive agenda that will benefit the United States and all other nations.

Earlier this year, the Biden and Sanders campaigns reached an agreement to form Unity Task Forces on the issues of climate change, criminal justice reform, the economy, education, health care, and immigration. While we appreciate the good faith efforts between the two campaigns, a task force on foreign policy is gravely missing. We Wisconsin delegates ask Biden and Sanders to unite for peace.

At 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16 - the day before the 2020 DNC will commence - we will assemble with local peace activists at the Peace Billboard in Milwaukee, which is part of a global campaign led by World Beyond War. The Peace Billboard has a simple but powerful message: "3% of U.S. Military Spending Could End Starvation on Earth." We are asking Vice President Biden and Senator Sanders to join us and publicly commit to enacting a more principled foreign policy that prioritizes diplomacy and multilateralism over militarism and cuts the bloated Pentagon budget.

Right now we are witnessing a movement to end the systemic racism that persists in our social institutions and militarized policing here at home. Racist, violent, and patriarchal policies need to change now both domestically and internationally. We must continue to work together to make that happen.

We are asking for your support by doing the following:

1) Sign and share this petition asking Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders to join us at the Peace Billboard, either in person or virtually, and listen and respond to the peace activists and delegates demanding a more progressive foreign policy.

2) Sign and share this letter to Vice President Biden originating from a broad coalition of organizations and foreign policy leaders which calls for and describes a new principled foreign policy.

3) Join us in person or online on Sunday, August 16 at 3:00 p.m. at the Peace Billboard, located on the south-east corner of Wells and James Lovell (7th) Streets. Masks and social distancing are required for in-person participants. More details will be shared via the event page.

Thank you for your support in this important effort.

Petition by
Wisconsin for Bernie
Madison, Wisconsin

To: Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders
From: [Your Name]

Dear Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders,

Your delegates from Wisconsin, home of the 2020 DNC, are coming together to ask you to unite for peace. Earlier this year, your campaigns formed Unity Task Forces on the issues of climate change, criminal justice reform, the economy, education, health care, and immigration. While we appreciate the good faith efforts between your two campaigns, a task force on foreign policy is gravely missing.

At 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16 - the day before the 2020 DNC will commence - Wisconsin delegates and peace activists will assemble at the Peace Billboard in Milwaukee, which is part of a global campaign led by World Beyond War. The Peace Billboard has a simple but powerful message: "3% of U.S. Military Spending Could End Starvation on Earth."

The Peace Billboard is located on the south-east corner of Wells and James Lovell (7th) Streets, one block west of the convention site. Several delegates and peace activists will speak at the billboard to briefly explain a more principled foreign policy that prioritizes diplomacy and multilateralism over militarism (https://www.codepink.org/lettertobiden) and cuts the bloated Pentagon budget (https://tinyurl.com/cutthepentagonbudget).

We invite you to attend this Peace Billboard event and respond to the speakers. Alternatively, you can send a video of your response to the policies outlined in the aforementioned websites.

This event will be live streamed and more details can be found on the Peace Billboard event page (https://actionnetwork.org/events/peace-billboard-event).

Right now we are witnessing a movement to end the systemic racism that persists in our social institutions and militarized policing here at home. Racist, violent and patriarchal policies need to change now both domestically and internationally. We must continue to work together to make that happen.

Thank you for your support in this important effort.
