Democrats win elections when we build unity and embrace our New Deal / Great Society roots. We accomplish that promoting Pro-99% policies including Guaranteed Jobs for All, Improved Medicare for All, Economic and Social Justice for All, Equal Rights and Civil Rights for All, Letting All Voters Vote (and Counting Their Votes Accurately) in Primaries and General Elections, as well as Ending Corporate Rule, Stopping Global Warming and Environmental Injustice, and Ending Wars and Occupations by promoting Peace, Diplomacy, and Disarmament.

Our platform is a widely-supported, proven winning approach that would help build the mass movement we need to win electoral, legislative, and policy victories. This because nearly all Democrats, most independents, and many Republicans agree we need an ambitious, empowered, populist, progressive agenda to overcome the challenges we face in the 21st Century—including the threats posed by reactionary, warmongering, and exploitative special interests and the politicians who cater to them.

Unfortunately, narrow-minded special interests continue to block needed reforms and progress. These powerful entities—operating within the both Major Parties, the corporate media, and elsewhere—push for corporatist, oligopolistic policies that serve a tiny elite while harming the planet and the vast majority of people home and abroad.

The hard-fought 2016 Presidential primaries exposed these divisions within our party. Donald Trump and the Republicans exploited our divisions and failures in 2016 to gain control of the Federal Government—building on a generation of right wing successes at the state and local levels.

It’s imperative that we unify in our efforts to oust reactionaries from power. We must move decisively and rapidly to unite the Party before the critically important midterm elections. With this in mind the Democratic National Committee (DNC) empaneled a Unity Reform Commission to come up with some practical recommendations to make us stronger as we face the elections of 2018 and 2020 and the future.

The proposed recommendations were adopted by the full committee which was comprised of 21 members appointed by Secretary Hillary Clinton, Senator Bernie Sanders, and DNC Chair Tom Perez. Their Unity and Reform Committee report is endorsed by DNC Chair Perez, Deputy DNC Chair Rep. Keith Ellison, both Co-chairs of the Progressive Caucus Rep Mark Pocan and Rep. Raul Grijalva, as well as several members of Congress.

As Democratic Party activists, we call on the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee and the full DNC to adopt the report in full. We commend the committee’s common sense and essential reforms including specific proposals to:

Make primaries and caucuses more open and accessible through opportunities like same-day registration;

Reduce un-pledged (unelected so-called Super Delegates' role) in the presidential nominating process;

Foster openness and transparency within the primary / nominating process including DNC and state party operations and funding, vendor and consulting contracts, and other financial, operational, and administrative actions and decision making.

As the Unity and Reform Committee Report states, Democrats must support voting rights, inclusion, and transparency inside our party as we continue to champion voting rights in our nation and oppose Republican voter suppression efforts.

We call on all DNC Members to strongly support and advocate for the adoption of these Unity and Reform proposals to strengthen and empower our Party quickly to help us win in the crucial elections ahead.
