What Happened in Philadelphia, and What Next for the Political Revolution?
A report-back from Bernie delegates to the Democratic National Convention
Back in 2013, well before Bernie Sanders announced his presidential campaign, Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) began urging him to run in the Democratic primaries, using the slogan “Run Bernie, Run!” They believed it was essential for a true progressive to enter the race and hoped that such a campaign would last long enough to bring crucial issues to national attention and provide a point around which activists could rally.
Fifteen months, 13 million voters, 22 primary victories and 1800 delegates later, the nationwide mass movement that developed around Bernie’s campaign presents a serious challenge to the Democratic establishment for the first time in more than 40 years. That movement will be strongly represented at the Party’s National Convention from July 25th to 28th.
The following week, PDA will hold a special forum featuring three delegates from the local area: Ben Becker, Amy Erb and Tom Gallagher. They will tell us about their experiences at the Convention and explore where the Political Revolution might go from here.
