Call the Capitol Switchboard (202)-224-3121
Demand Mercy and Justice on the Border
Time is very short. Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) joins with you and countless other Americans in horror over the cruel treatment of children and families seeking our help at the border. Please act now! Tell Congress To Stop Dividing Families!
Call the US Capitol Switchboard at (202)-224-3121, and they will connect you to your Senators and Representative. Ask to speak to (or leave a voicemail for) the staffer working on Immigration issues. Say you’re their constituent and you expect them to cosponsor and work to pass the Establishing a Humane Immigration Enforcement System Act; legislation to replace ICE (the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency) and Trump’s “Zero Tolerance” policy with humane, fair, and effective immigration policies.

With invidious intent, the Trump Justice Department has instructed U.S. Attorneys—supposedly public advocates—to use the insulting, pejorative term “illegal alien” to refer to asylum seekers and others. This rather than the neutral and descriptive term “undocumented immigrant.”
Administration hostility has and will continue to stoke anger against migrants as well as distract attention from ongoing atrocities committed against innocent children and families. More than 450 parents have been deported without their children. The increasingly heartless Department of Homeland Security (DHS) claims that the deported parents must initiate reunification procedures. This is wholly unacceptable.
On Monday, Administration officials claimed that they had reunited or “appropriately discharged” only 1,187 (of 2,551) children over 5, and only 58 (of 103) under 5 separated from their parents. This is a grossly inadequate response to the predictable results of Trump’s horrendously cruel and unnecessary “zero tolerance” policy.
Concerned Americans are asking, “What happens to the children not reunited with their parents? Are they being deported as unaccompanied minors? Are they being placed in foster care, with relatives, or with strangers? Are private detention centers profiting from this policy and these separations?”
Extreme Trumpublicans in Congress are stone-walling effective, popular, bipartisan proposals to solve this crisis. Your pressure can help overcome their intransigence. Tell Congress to stop dividing families!
PDA's position on immigration policy is clear. Trump's reactionary nationalism, his barbaric “Zero Tolerance” policies, his hateful rhetoric that keeps framing the plight of migrants fleeing violence and chaos as somehow in competition with the working class is dishonest and dangerous xenophobia. Whatever he means by “Making America Great Again,” it should not involve building walls and driving people apart. The People United Will Never Be Defeated! El Pueblo Unido Jamas Sera Vencido!
