Watch Live for the People's Summit

Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) was the first national organization to endorse Bernie Sanders. His electrifying, historic speech last night to over 200,000 supporters highlighted all the reasons we did so, and reconfirmed why we continue supporting him. Right now, PDA is with our sisters and brothers of National Nurses United and thousands of other Bernie supporters at the People's Summit in Chicago.

Here, we're planning the next phase of our powerful progressive movement. We'll report the results in more detail soon. Watch the action online! There was a packed room for the opening panel, and we're holding engaging, effective discussions and workshops all weekend.

PHONE NUMBER UPDATE: Call Congress Now, Share on Social Media!

The Defense Appropriations bill, HR.5293, is on the floor of the Congress right now.  75 amendments will receive votes, starting and maybe finishing today.  Here are four top amendments to focus on. Please call your member of Congress and ask them to vote YES on these four amendments.

Calls are preferable to emails due to the short time before the vote.  Call the Congressional switchboard: 877-429-0678 (they may say something other than Congressional switchboard, but this is the correct number). Ask to be connected to your member of Congress. You can discuss all 4 amendments with 1 call.

Humanity and Dignity Under the Gun

As a federal political action committee, mainly focused on electing progressive candidates to federal offices, Progressive Democrats of America has generally not weighed in on gun violence issues. That changes today. We have always held that an injury to one is an injury to all. Today, even as we grieve about the tragedy at the Pulse LGBTQ nightclub in Orlando, we are expressing our deep commitment to doing all that we can to end the severe and nearly constant level of gun violence in our nation.

Healthcare is a Human Right

Back in 2008, we were co-chairs of PDA's Healthcare NOT Warfare campaign. We traveled to Cleveland and Pittsburgh to push the Democratic Party platform committee to pursue Medicare for all / single-payer healthcare, as well as a commitment to stopping wars and less military spending. We testified to the committee, and we did win some language changes with the help of a delegate from the Chicago area.

Help Us Re-elect Rep. Raul Grijalva

I'm going to be brief. Please contribute generously right now to help re-elect our dear friend and PDA National Advisory Board member, Rep. Raúl Grijalva. PDA was the first organization to endorse Bernie, and Raúl was the first member of Congress to join us. As Bernie wrote about Raúl:

When we started our campaign, we had the support of hundreds of thousands of grassroots supporters beginning to build the movement that we know today. And the first member of Congress who saw the potential of our political revolution was Congressman Raúl Grijalva. Raúl was the very first member of Congress to endorse our campaign, and he did so proudly. He is a progressive leader in Congress who's not afraid to stand up to the political establishment. Donate generously now to help re-elect Rep. Grijalva!

From California to Philadelphia

Yesterday's results weren't everything we'd hoped, but they were far better than we expected when we began the Run Bernie Run campaign in 2013. The complete vote from California may take days to come in, although the results so far reflect disappointment engendered by premature media pronouncement of a "presumptive nominee."

While we didn't hit the high numbers we'd hoped, Bernie remains a viable candidate to win a contested convention in July. Most importantly, our grassroots progressive movement continues to grow. Last night, Bernie Sanders vowed to continue our political revolution. "Next Tuesday we continue the fight," he told a huge, enthusiastic crowd in Santa Monica, CA. "We are going to fight hard to win the primary in Washington, D.C., and then we take our fight for social, economic, racial and environmental justice to Philadelphia." Now it’s time for all of us to step up YUGE to make a real difference in this political revolution.

See You In Philadelphia!

Today, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, and California voted. We won't know all the results until very late tonight (or early tomorrow), but we know this: neither candidate clinched the nomination. Bernie Sanders won several hundreds of additional pledged delegates. Super Delegates don't vote until July 25th, and can change their minds at any time. That means the Convention in Philadelphia will choose the nominee. Not the media; the delegates will decide.

Our movement is growing! Bernie Sanders and Progressive Democrats of America remain committed to building the political revolution! Please pitch in $500, $50, or whatever you can afford now to help keep PDA organizing for you! Money tight? You can still help! Contact Mike "Phone Guy" Fox to make critically important mobilization calls from your own home!

Stand Up Against Voter Suppression (Updated)

Voter Suppression takes many forms. Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) was founded in 2004 on principles including Clean, Fair, Open and Transparent Elections. In 2005, we were among the lead organizations working to investigate wholesale voter suppression in Ohio, and we've dedicated ourselves to promoting democracy.

When media outlets decide to make news, rather than report it, that's a serious concern. When the narrative they create is likely to suppress voting, PDA cannot remain silent. Please join with us demanding that media refrain from announcing any conclusions likely to suppress turnout by contributing to our Emergency Stop Voter Suppression fund now!
