Dump Debbie By Electing Tim Canova

Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) and Bernie Sanders endorsed progressive activist Tim Canova for Congress because we are committed to electing a governing progressive majority to Congress with candidates like Tim. We're doing this by engaging, empowering, and electing progressive Democrats.

Please join us now in donating generously to Tim Canova–the highly qualified challenger facing deposed Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Debbie Wasserman-Shultz (DWS) in Florida's 23rd Congressional District. (ActBlue will automatically split your donation between Tim's campaign and PDA.) Or click on the donation links to send a check.

Help Elect Jamie Raskin To Congress

Last April, Jamie Raskin won a decisive victory against two millionaires in one of the most expensive House primary elections in U.S. history. PDA was with him from the beginning until the end. We organized canvasses, made 100s of phone calls, and sent out several blasts to help bring in contributions and volunteers. Donna Smith helped fire up the volunteers at Jamie's campaign headquarters March 17. I personally worked the polls for Jamie on Primary Tuesday, from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. from open until close, without a break. It was all worth it.

Personal Report From Philadelphia

I've just gotten my feet on the ground in Philadelphia. Whether you are going to join in Philadelphia or not, please know we carry with us the energy, passion, and compassion that each of you poured into this presidential primary. PDA is making a real difference, and it's still possible for all of us to make an even greater difference. In preparation, your PDA national staff has been working incredibly hard to make sure that our 5th Progressive Central is the most successful ever. We've worked so hard, in fact, that the event is sold out. Imagine that. Our voice is as Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) is increasingly heard and respected.

In addition to our work on Progressive Central, PDA is so very proud of all of our DNC delegates headed to Philly. We have identified more than 220 Bernie delegates in our ranks, and we know there are also Hillary delegates who are our PDA sisters and brothers. I wish all PDA delegates a successful convention that helps move the Democratic Party in a far more progressive direction. PDA will be at work assisting delegates on the floor. We're proud that we have more than 220 PDA members who plan to be on the convention floor as delegates at the Democratic National Convention. We want to support them as much as we can. Please contribute $5, $50, $500 or whatever you can now to keep us organizing and mobilizing! If you're a delegate and you need any help, find PDA's Mike "Delegate Guy" Fox.

Please Join Us In Philadelphia To Continue The Struggle

Want to help PDA get the message out at events? We're looking for volunteers to hand out materials like lapel stickers. It's fun and easy. Contact me, PDA Field Director Judy Hess, by email (Put "Monday Volunteer" in the subject line) or call me at: (559)-907-0279.

If you're coming to Progressive Central, please bring your own reusable water bottles. If you can manage, please bring a cooler filled with ice to help us keep our refreshments cold. Let us know ASAP by email to Mike Hersh if you can help with ice and a cooler. Also, let Mike Hersh know if you have any special dietary needs immediately, and we'll do our best to accommodate them. The earlier you let us know, the better. We can't promise anything.

Independence: From 1776 to 2016

Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) recently had our 1776th donation to our “Makes Change” fund. This struck us as an interesting coincidence, as we’re about to hold our 5th Progressive Central, the People’s Convention in Philadelphia—the city associated with the Declaration of Independence and the year 1776.  (Click here to read a longer version of this article, and/or to share this email online).

We hope you’ll join with us declaring independence from politics as usual. PDA represents the insurgency in the Democratic Party. We challenge elected officials to live up to progressive democratic principles of peace, justice, equality, and inclusion. We hope to reach at least 2016 donations before we begin Progressive Central this Monday. Will you help? Please contribute $5, $50, $500 or whatever you can now! Signing up for monthly recurring contributions (automatically delivered from your credit card or bank account) would be extremely helpful, but we welcome any donation.

Colorado Governor Would Be Wrong VP Choice

As we approach Friday’s announcement by the Hillary Clinton camp of their selection of running mates, Gov. John Hickenlooper of Colorado is apparently one of the people who has been under consideration. Choosing Hickenlooper to share the Democratic Party’s ticket would weaken the modest progressive gains made during the DNC’s platform struggle, and set the tone for what a Hillary Clinton presidency might value.

It's not enough to elect just any Democrat to office. Some are Democrats in Name Only. We must demand and strongly support progressive candidates for every campaign, from president to precinct chair. Support Progressive Democrats of America in our effort to elect truly progressive Democrats to office. Please contribute $5, $50, $500 or whatever you can now to keep us organizing and mobilizing!

From Northampton to Philly...and Beyond!

Progressive Democrats of America's founder Tim Carpenter passed away just over two years ago. In a few weeks, in Philadelphia, we will honor his legacy—including his founding of PDA, the Healthcare Not Warfare campaign, and the Progressive Central concept. We'll renew Tim's vision of progressives gathering at a Democratic National Convention begun in 2004, and held every 4 years since then.

At the end of his long and dedicated career of activism, Tim had one last battle in him. He almost single-handedly launched the Run Bernie Run effort in 2013, and relentlessly urged Bernie Sanders to run for president as a Democrat. For the past several months, we’ve been pouring our time, energy, and resources into helping Bernie build the political revolution into the powerful force it is today. A profoundly modest person, Tim wouldn't have let us explain this, but credit where credit is due: None of that would've happened without Tim Carpenter's vision and courage.

Elect A Senator With Guts

Progressive Democrats of America endorsed Rep. Alan Grayson because he stands up for the 99% and never backs down. He challenges the Florida machine, and endorsed Bernie Sanders for President. We want a Senator who will not only protect Social Security, but expand it—someone who will fight for “Healthcare Not Warfare.” With vote by mail ballots going out next week, Alan needs your help now. We need him to champion these causes in the Senate. Please contribute generously to help elect him now!

Help Send the PDA Team to Philadelphia

When we convene in Philadelphia in just over a week, yours truly, the guy you might know better as Mike "the phone guy" Fox, will be there as the floor captain for all the elected Bernie delegates who are part of the PDA base. Please pitch in now to help us get more of our people to Philadelphia for the Democratic Convention and our Progressive Central events.

PDA has more than 200 people who worked hard to get elected as Bernie delegates to the DNC convention. That's in large part because of our early work with the "We Want Bernie" campaign. The costs for travel and housing for delegates could well exceed $3,000 each. PDA cannot cover all of that along with all of the other convention related and Progressive Central costs. We need you to step up big to help pay our activists' way to Philadelphia. Jim Hightower wrote a brief message calling on all of us to support me, and people responded. Now, I'm asking for your help to send me the people I need to help me win floor fights at the convention.
